SKfit to Feast: How to Get in Shape Before Thanksgiving in Hillcrest, San Diego

By Sly · 2026-11-02

Thanksgiving is about three and a half weeks away. Most people treat that as a reason to pause their training until January. We do the opposite. Every year at SKfit, our private studio on Fourth Ave in Hillcrest, we run SKfit to Feast. It's a simple plan to get in shape before Thanksgiving, so you can sit down at that table and enjoy every bite with zero guilt.

You earn the plate in the weeks before. Then you enjoy it. Here's how it works and how you can use it this year.

What Is SKfit to Feast?

SKfit to Feast started back in our studio days as a pre-Thanksgiving challenge for clients. Instead of dreading the holiday, we used it as a finish line. The idea is simple: By the time you're passing the mashed potatoes, the habit doesn't feel like work anymore. That's the real prize.

How to Get in Shape Before Thanksgiving in 4 Weeks

Four weeks won't transform your body. Anyone who promises that is selling something. Still, four weeks is plenty of time to build real momentum and get stronger. You'll feel better in your clothes and head into the holidays with a routine that's already running. Here's the plan we use with clients in Hillcrest:
  1. Week 1, pick your habit: Walking every day, protein at every meal, lifting three times a week, or a no-eating-after-dinner cutoff. Start with the smallest version you know you can hit.
  2. Week 2, climb one rung: Add 5 minutes to your walk or protein at one more meal. On lifting days, add one more set. Small bumps add up.
  3. Week 3, protect your streak: This is the week life gets busy. Follow one rule: never miss twice. One missed day is nothing. Two in a row is how habits quietly die.
  4. Week 4, finish strong: Hold your habit through Thanksgiving week. Get a workout in on the morning of the holiday if you can. Then sit down and enjoy the meal you earned.

Keep Strength Training at the Center

If you only have time for one thing before the holidays, lift. Strength training protects your muscle and your metabolism. In fact, the CDC recommends muscle-strengthening work at least two days a week for adults. Pair it with daily walking and enough protein, and you have a plan that works whether you're 25 or 65. If you're over 50, read our guide on strength training at 50 for how we adjust the plan.

Don't Let the Scale Mess With Your Head

Before Thanksgiving, a lot of people see the scale jump two pounds and quit. That jump is almost never fat. Salt, carbs, a hard workout, and short sleep all make your body hold water for a day or two. So weigh yourself a few mornings a week and look at the weekly average. Also pay attention to how your clothes fit and how your strength is moving. If your lifts are going up and your waist is going down, you're winning.

Thanksgiving Day Itself

SKfit to Feast is about enjoying the meal, not white-knuckling it. A few simple moves make the day feel great: For the weeks after Thanksgiving, check out our holiday fitness plan to stay on track through New Year's.

Get in Shape Before Thanksgiving With a Coach

Doing this on your own works. However, doing it with a coach works better. Someone is checking in, adjusting your plan and making sure you show up. At SKfit, every session is one-on-one with Sly, training since 2002, in a private studio with no crowded gym floor. Sessions are $70 with packages available, and your first consult is free.

We train clients from Hillcrest, Mission Hills, North Park, Normal Heights, University Heights and Bankers Hill. Want help with weight loss, or just want to walk into the holidays stronger? There's still time to get in shape before Thanksgiving with your own SKfit to Feast.
